Debt-Free Degree: Pay for College Without Student Loans

Welcome to Debt-Free Degree: Pay for College Without Student Loans
Hi there! I'm so glad you're here.
If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by the financial aid process, you’re not alone. The world of FAFSA, grants, scholarships, and aid can be confusing—but it doesn’t have to be. That’s exactly why I created Debt-Free Degree—to give students and families a clear, simple path to paying for college without the burden of student loans.
In this blog (and throughout my course), you’ll learn how to:
-
Maximize your FAFSA to get the most in Pell Grants and Federal Aid
-
Avoid the most common financial aid mistakes that could cost you thousands
-
Explore employer tuition reimbursement programs and how to qualify
-
Understand and apply for Military Education Benefits—for active duty, veterans, spouses, and dependents
-
Find and apply for scholarships that actually match your background and goals
-
Uncover lesser-known grants, like the FSEOG and state-based programs
-
Use transfer credits, CLEP testing, and community college to slash tuition costs
-
Build your own custom Debt-Free Degree plan with strategies tailored to your situation
Who Am I?
I’m Mike Copelin, and I’ve been a Financial Aid Advisor for over 12 years at both campus-based and online schools. I’ve helped thousands of students navigate the financial aid process, but more than that—I’ve taught them how to get the most aid possible without going into debt.
I started this platform because too many students were being forced to rely on loans simply because they didn’t know what other options were available. Many students I’ve worked with didn’t think they qualified for grants—until we found the right strategies. And guess what? Many of them walked away debt-free.
Why Debt-Free Degree?
Because college should launch your future, not chain you to decades of repayment.
My goal is to help you uncover every possible way to pay for your education without student loans. While I can’t fill out your scholarship applications for you, I’ll show you:
-
How to find them
-
How to apply strategically
-
How to combine multiple sources of aid to fully cover your tuition
You’ll also learn about:
-
Tuition reimbursement through employers
-
Military education benefits (for service members, spouses & dependents)
-
State and federal grants beyond just Pell
-
Low-cost options like community colleges and transfer credits
-
Testing out of classes and saving with college savings accounts
Let’s Be Real…
Pell Grants alone often aren’t enough to cover tuition—and that’s where many students stop looking. But there are so many other ways to fund your education if you know where to look. That’s what I’m here for—to help you build a custom, strategic plan for your Debt-Free Degree.
There’s a lot of noise in the news right now about student loans and changes in the Department of Education. But one thing is still true: aid is available, and it’s up to you to get what you’re eligible for—while you still can.
Let’s take the stress out of paying for college and turn it into a challenge instead. What can you uncover? How close can you get to a degree that doesn’t leave you drowning in debt?
You’re here because you believe there’s a better way—and you’re right.
Let’s get started on your Debt-Free Degree.
